Christmas is definitely one of the prettiest celebrations that I absolutely love. From the food, sparkling lights, decorated streets, happy mood, and the quality time spent with the family.
Every household and person has its own tradition and viewpoint on Christmas. However, one thing is clear. It is a time of the year when you got to fully reflect on yourself and finish off everything you started this year.
London is a magical place to be and visit during Christmas time. Despite the uncertain and weird time, it doesn’t stop the city to glow in lights and bring a festive mood to people. From the beautiful storefronts, streets, Christmas trees, and ice rings to Christmas markets. Most famously the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, which is unfortunately not happening this year.
Nevertheless, we all got to enjoy some mulled wine and be surrounded by our support bubble.
Let me share with you some of the beautiful Christmas places around London you should not miss.
1. Fortnum & Mason
Fortnum & Mason is an upmarket department store near Piccadilly Circus, selling anything from teas, and homeware to food and other joy-giving items. You should visit this department store whether you like tea or not! This couple stored building turns out to be even more festive during Christmas time!
2. Burlington Arcade
Just a few steps away from Fortnum & Mason, there is Burlington Arcade. It is one of the best-known London shopping arcades at Christmas and beyond. The whole arcade pathway and entrances are always decorated with a nice theme. Definitely worth visiting to soak up some Christmas vibe with Christmas songs in the background.
As usual, the shopping streets are always fully decorated with giant Christmas lights. New Bond Street is especially even more beautiful with the stunning storefronts as they look like a piece of art! With the endless creativity and decoration put into it, there is no wonder that it is a great place to get inspired and take pictures.
I am sure you have seen in many images the sparkling Christmas lights of an angel. That is on Regent Street. Known as ‘The Spirit of Christmas’, Regent Street’s Christmas lights display is the largest one in the country.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is London’s spectacular Christmas destination and would be usually open from November up until January. The large area covered in Hyde Park is a fun amusement park for adults and kids. You’ll find here anything from food stalls, souvenir stalls, and ice rings to all sorts of fun games. It is a definitely spectacular place to lose yourself in a festive mood.
The signature 40ft Christmas tree welcomes visitors when they enter into Somerset House courtyard. Usually accompanied by an open-ice ring around the tree.
7. National History Museum
National History Museum and the surrounding area are also beautiful to visit during Christmas time. Not only you can spend some time exploring and educating yourself in the museums around you, but you can go ice skating in their open ice ring next door. With the beautiful Christmas tree sitting in the middle and the beautiful museum building backdrop it is making the Christmas evening even more magical.
In the heart of London’s West End, two minutes away from Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus, Carnaby street is another popular destination for shopping and dining. What I love about Carnaby is their inspiring and mesmerizing Christmas decoration which they change every single year! There has not been a year where I have seen the same decoration, which is pretty impressive and unique!
9. Southbank
Southbank is another popular place for people to head to for Christmas markets, events and a stroll around the riverside. Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival usually runs from November up until early January.
10. Covent Garden
Covent Garden is another beautiful, yet popular destination for Christmas. With a 60ft Christmas tree, indoor Christmas decorations,s and a number of other Christmas decorations around, it is a great place for friends and families to gather and explore the surrounding area.
