Speaking of museums, there is plenty that you can visit in Barcelona. Many offer free entry once a month, so you can take advantage of this while you’re on your trip. The Picasso museum houses one of the most extensive collections of famous artists. Another which will be of interest if you have a passion for art is the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, home to many exquisite fine art pieces. You have the maritime museum where you can learn about the ships and vessels, including the military naval ships used in the Barcelona war. Do your research ahead of time, and find out which museums you can access for free and on which days or dates so you can plan your trip around this.

Visit the markets
There are plenty of vibrant and interesting markets in Barcelona, selling fresh food and all kinds of wares. While you will, of course, need to pay for anything you want to buy, everything is far cheaper than you’d ever get back home and so you can have a great day out without spending much. Be sure to check out the food vendors, who will be selling delicious, authentic cuisine for tiny prices.
Go to the beach
Did you know that Barcelona’s beaches are actually man-made? They were created for the Olympics, but are so well done that the city is recognised for being one of the best beach locations in Spain! With blue waters and a tropical climate, the beaches most definitely don’t feel out of place. A day at the beach will cost next to nothing- you can sunbathe, throw a frisbee and paddle in the sea. If you bring a picnic along with you, you’ll spend hardly anything! Barcelona might be a fantastic city break, but it’s great having the option to get to the beach for a day and spend time somewhere relaxing.
