VULCAN
We hired a car from Bucharest, so it gave us the flexibility to travel around and stay wherever we wanted. That is why we have chosen Wolkendorf Bio Hotel & Spa located in the town of Vulcan in Brasov county. At Wolkendorf Bio Hotel & Spa you can have relaxation through spa services, a sauna complex, outdoor and indoor activities, children’s playgrounds, or traditional meals. It may be harder to access, but definitely worth the drive, if you are planning to go sightseeing or skiing in surrounding areas.
THE LOCATION
The spacious hotel property was spread at the edge of the woods, and with nothing around. A perfect location for romantic nights in a mountain area and ideal for a couple or family relaxation. With inclusive spa access and a large playground for children to play, it is a great place to retreat. It may be confusing at first to where to go, as reception may not be there all the time, and there are times when we have to actively go and seek staff members when we wanted to check in or check out. The rooms are divided into a couple of buildings, so you will have to go outside if you want to go to a reception, spa, or to the dining room. The hotel has its own parking space as well, which may be very busy during peak periods, but you’ll always find a spot.
THE ROOM & INTERIOR
The room was very spacious, overlooking the woods and a pound of the hotel. The whole hotel interior is decorated in traditional wood and paint craftsmanship. The furniture fits well with the overall look and feel of the building and room.
You’ll find everything you need in the room, including a slipper, freshwater, or hairdryer. The only thing that was lacking was bathrobes, as you have to get them in a spa reception, so you will always have to go and change in there and can’t walk around comfortably from your room. In addition, you won’t have any glasses or a kettle in the room as well, as you would expect a normal hotel room’s facilities to have. Nevertheless, you always can borrow from the kitchen if needed.
THE FACILITIES
Each building has a dedicated common room for guests. Whether it is a kid’s indoor playground or a library. Apart from this, you will have a large exterior playground, treehouse or pond for families and individuals.The restaurant building is located separately from the rooms, and you’ll have over two floors of space for dining, from traditional dishes to international ones. Breakfasts are also complimentary with your stay and there’s a wide range of hot and cold food for the morning.
However, the most impressive facility is obviously the spa. The spa area consists of both indoor and outdoor pools, massages, and a number of saunas and relaxation rooms. Spa and pool access is for everyone who is staying at Wolkendorf, it tends to not be busy at all, as it is open from morning till evening and everyone seems to be going at different times. There were times when I had the whole space for myself. For those who want massages, they are also available here, but you’ll have to book a session in advance and pay for this individually.
