Put down the phones and get active this summer

Summer is here and if the weatherman is to be believed what a summer it looks likely to be. With some of the hottest weather recorded in a good few years and more glorious summer weather predicted for at least the next few weeks, it’s most definitely the right time to get out there, get active and really enjoy the summer. After all, this is the United Kingdom, so we all know just how quickly the weather can change. If you are stuck for ideas of what to do this summer, then here are just a few suggestions that might help you get out there and make the most of those long hot days.

Be a tourist

If you fancy exploring the UK, then why not become a tourist in your local area? Make a list of all those outdoor places you have always wanted to visit but have usually been put off going to because of the weather. Stately homes are a great place to visit in the summer, with stunning formal gardens to explore, they are certainly somewhere you can spend the best part of the day exploring and if it gets too hot outdoors then why not venture inside for a tour and immerse yourself in the history of the area.

Head down to the beach

When the weather gets too hot and you feel the need to cool down, head to the beach. From Scotland to Devon the UK has some truly spectacular beaches. Whether you prefer one of the smaller beaches nestled in rocky coves or a sandy beach that seems to stretch endlessly in front of you a trip to the beach is perfect on a sunny day. You are never too old to build sandcastles, bury dad or splash in the waves, and if you are feeling a little adventurous then why not take a dip in the sea or try surfing, both are guaranteed to cool you off very effectively. Just remember to pack your changing towel because even on the warmest day it can still seem a little chilly once you come out of the water.

Take a walk on the wild side

If you want to get plenty of exercises while enjoying some of the best scenery walking is a great summer activity. If you don’t fancy going it alone then why not join a local rambling group and go along for a few of their organised walks? All you need is a sturdy pair of walking boots, a good rucksack, a waterproof just in case, and of course that all-important sense of adventure. From woodland walks to brisk climbs you can be assured of some truly spectacular scenery and plenty of fresh air.

The lazy days of summer

If the heat is too much for you but you still fancy getting out of the house and enjoying the great outdoors then why not head for your nearest park, make sure you pick one with a great play area for the kids and don’t forget to take a picnic and blanket with you so you can laze in the sun. You never know after you have had a tasty picnic and a chance to rest in the sun you might just feel like a nice stroll around the park. You could even take your bikes with you and enjoy a gentle ride together as a family. Whatever you do, don’t waste this beautiful weather glued to your phones; all too soon the weather will turn chilly and damp again, and you will wish you could be outside.
