48 hours in Boston, Massachusetts

BOSTON

Boston is Massachusetts’ capital and largest city. It is one of the oldest cities in the US and is known for its many colleges, universities and key role in the American Revolution highlighted on an approximately 4 km walking historical trail, called Freedom Trail. With Boston’s rich history and broad areas in arts, culture and education, Boston will for sure have something for everyone.
The first time, I spent about a month in Boston during summer and this round of visits I have quickly stopped by Boston for 2 nights. Whatever length you are looking to spend in this city, there is stuff to do in whatever season you are visiting. Boston has about 23 neighbourhoods distinct by their history and culture.

Boston sights

Day 1
Start your morning in Boston by walking through the Freedom Trail either by yourself or a book a tour. This trail will walk you around major memorials and monuments around Boston. This trail itself with stops and visits would take you approximately half a day. After a long walk, go to Faneuill hall marketplace for a dining experience in a historic market building. While you are in Boston, definitely try lobster rolls and chowder.
After your meal and shop and stalls strolling, have a walk in Boston Common, the large public park in Downtime Boston will offer you some nice greenery scenery and surrounding views.
Head down to the waterfront through Chinatown or the Financial District of Boston. You should arrive around Aquarium or Boston Harborwalk. Take a walk around the waterfront towards Christopher Columbus waterfront park.
Coming closer to late afternoon or evening time, walk to Boston North End through Public Market, where you can find some fresh fruit and vegetable stalls as well as local products. Passing through this market, you should get into the North End, or so-called Boston’s Little Italy. The district of the city’s oldest buildings will offer you historic sites such as Old North Church, Paul Revere House or Copp’s burying ground. Apart from there, explore the variety of Italian restaurants, coffee shops, and pastry shops on lively Hanover Street. Great spot to stop for dinner or a glass of wine.

Day 2
On a second day, take a subway ride to Harvard University campus station to explore prestigious university neighbourhood. MIT is not too far away from Harvard, if you wish to explore another prestigious university. Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university established in 1636 and Boston is home to these universities. Take a walk around Harvard Square, Massachusetts Ave and visit Harvard museums too. MIT is another famous research university specialising in STEM subjects. While in this area, stop by for a quick lunch at Bagelsaurus to try out a variety of tastes of American bagels.
After this visit, head to Copley train station to get to Boston Public Library. This stunning historical building offers beautiful Renaissance-style architecture and beautiful murals. From here, it is a short walk to Boylston street where you will find many entertainment and shops. However, turn right to Newbury street to experience the walk around historic 19th-century brownstone houses that contains shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
Not far away from here, catch the sunset views and stunning skyline Boston views from the Skywalk observatory. Around this area and on Boylston street, you may find many places for dining, where you can finish off your day.
