How To Make Your Home Feel Like A Holiday Villa

You love travelling, but you can’t do it all the time (unless you’re very lucky, of course). Most people have to spend at least some time at home, whether it’s for work, family, finances, or all of the above. However, just because you have to be at home when you really want to explore new places, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a holiday atmosphere in the comfort of your own home as well and turn it into a gorgeous villa. In fact, there are a number of ways you can achieve exactly that, so read on to find out what they are.

Get The Flooring Right

If there’s one thing you’ll notice in all villas, it’s the flooring. There won’t be any carpets in hot, European destinations, and instead, every floor will be covered in tile or similar materials. So, of course, if you want to make your home into a holiday villa, you’ll need to do the same thing.

Tiles are a good option because they can come in a variety of different colours, and you can pick larger or smaller tiles to match the look you’re going for. However, something that can actually work better is honed concrete. This is an ideal choice because, like tiles, it keeps things cool and it looks great, especially with its slightly matte finish, but as well as this, it’s something that can be used both inside and out, meaning that you can extend your flooring out into your garden and really complete the holiday villa look and feel.

Have An Open Plan Layout

Something else you’ll often find in a holiday villa, which you may not have at home already (although in a more modern house, it’s certainly possible), is an open plan layout. This is a lovely interior design idea as it gives you a nice flow between rooms and area, and it can be extended outside too (which is where the honed concrete idea we mentioned above can come in).

This could be a big project, so it’s worth speaking to experts and getting some help with the design rather than just starting to knock walls down in your home (especially as some of them will be supporting walls, and taking them out can make your property unsafe). The end result, when done well, will be gorgeous, light, and airy, and it should remind you perfectly of a holiday villa.

Let In Light

When you think of a holiday villa, you’ll think of sunshine and lots of light – they’re mostly found in hot, sunny countries, after all, so this is only to be expected. At home, the climate might not be quite the same, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make the most of the light you do have.

Think about using thin, even sheer, curtains on your windows, or blinds that give you more chance to get light inside (these are probably more suited to your villa style). Plus, install some mirrors on the walls so you can bounce light around. If you really want to do something bigger, adding a skylight or turning an entire wall into a glass sliding door to the outside should tick all the boxes.
